Crime Alert: Attempted Purse Snatching

On Sunday, November 22, 2015, at 6:28 p.m., ULPD officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Rex Street in reference to a report of an attempted purse snatching. The complainant stated she parked her vehicle along Rex Street near Madison and Griffin halls, and that she began walking along the sidewalk towards the Conference Center. The complainant said that she was approached by two black males. One of the male suspects ran up and grabbed her purse. The complainant stated she punched the suspect and screamed. The suspects then turned and ran towards E. Lewis Street as she ran with her purse to the Conference Center to contact ULPD. Officers canvased the surrounding areas with assistance from Lafayette City Police, but were unable to locate the suspects.

Suspect 1 is described as a black male believed to be in his early 20’s, approximately 6’0″ tall, medium complexion, short “fro” hairstyle, and wearing a gray jacket, black jogger pants, and tennis shoes.

Suspect 2 is described as a black male, in his early 20’s, with longer hair. 

The case is currently under investigation.

NOTICE Oct. 4:

On Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, at approximately 5:30 p.m., UL Police responded to the parking area at E. Lewis St. and Johnston St.

A female was getting belongings from her vehicle when she stated that a white male subject grabbed her from behind. He told her “if you scream you will not live to regret it.” She was able to fight him off. He ran through the parking lot towards the old Goodwill store.

He is described as a white male in his early twenties, approximately 6’0″ wearing a grey shirt with black lettering and a black flat-bill hat facing backwards. Officers have searched the area for the suspect. If you have any information, please contact the UL Police Department at 337-482-6447.

Crime Alert: Shooting

On September 18, 2015, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Lafayette Police responded to 409 E. University in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, police found the victim with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the arm. The victim is a non-student and possibly knows the shooter. The victim is communicating with Lafayette Police and was transported to a local hospital.

Crime Alert: Attempted Armed Robbery

UPDATE:
Please help UL Police identify the attempted armed robbery suspects in these photos and video.

On August 26, 2015, at approximately 11:23 p.m., UL Lafayette Police responded to an attempted armed robbery at Legacy Park Apartments at 210 Girard Park Circle.

Two black males approached an individual and demanded money. One of the suspects brandished a semi-automatic pistol. The victim did not have any money on his person and the suspects fled the scene on foot towards E. Lewis Dr.

One suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5 foot 11 inches to 6 foot 2 inches tall, wearing a red hat, blue shirt and dark pants. The other suspect with the semi-automatic weapon is described as a shorter black male, approximately 5 foot 6 inches to 5 foot 9 inches tall wearing a white shirt and shorts and has a goatee.

Crime Alert: Armed Robbery (not in progress)

On July 18, 2015, at approximately 3:37 a.m., ULPD was notified of an armed robbery, not in progress, in the 600 block of Tulane Avenue. The victim was making a pizza delivery to an apartment across from Huger Hall. The victim said that when he was walking from the apartment’s fenced area, he was approached by two black males who demanded cash. One was brandishing a handgun.

• Suspect 1 – described as a black male, 6′ 2″ height, 230 lbs, wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans, and a red cap, with hair “twisted” or in “dreads.”
• Suspect 2 – described as a black male, 6′ 2″ height, 230 lbs, wearing blue jeans, an unknown shirt, and a green and white “fishing” hat. The victim said that Suspect 2 brandished an all-black handgun, described as a 1911 model.

It is believed the suspects entered a red, newer model, Ford Mustang driven by an unknown black male. The vehicle was parked in front of Huger Hall. The two black male suspects were seen running from the apartments and entered the vehicle on the passenger side. The vehicle proceeded forward and turned left onto Taft Street.

The Lafayette Police Department was notified and sent officers to the scene.

Crime alert: Unauthorized entry

On June 14, 2015 at approximately 1:30 a.m., University Police received a call that someone attempted to gain entry into an apartment at Cajun Village. The resident stated that she heard someone slowing turning the front doorknob of the apartment. She stated that she woke her husband up and when he looked down the hallway, he saw two silhouettes entering the front door. The male resident said he yelled, “Hey!” and the two individuals ran away in the direction of the maintenance sheds/coulee. He said he attempted to chase them, but they “disappeared into the night.” The only description the victim could provide was that he believes one of the suspects was wearing a white T-shirt and, due to a wet footprint he observed, he believes one of the suspects was wearing Converse tennis shoes. The area was thoroughly checked by police and the two suspects were not located.

Crime alert: Carjacking

On May 18, 2015, Lafayette City Police was dispatched to Lafayette General in reference to a victim being battered. The victim alleged he was walking to his vehicle at  Cajun Field between 1 p.m and 4 p.m. on May 17, 2015, when two males attacked him. The attackers were said to be of average height and build. The victim alleged the suspects battered him and took the key to his vehicle and then stole his vehicle. This case remains under investigation. Students who were delayed or unable to travel to classes prior to 9:30 a.m. due to storm conditions should communicate with their professors to discuss their situation. The Spring 2015 Career Fair will be open Tuesday 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Cajundome Convention Center. The McNeese State versus Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball game will start at 6 p.m. at Tigue Moore Field. Grammy-winning artist Irvin Mayfield will perform at a free concert in Angelle Hall at 7 p.m.

The Chef John Besh book signing and talk that was scheduled for Tuesday is postponed until further notice. The UL Lafayette Early Childhood Lab at the Picard Center in UL Lafayette’s Research Park will be closed Tuesday.
